This publication contains personal feelings and perceptions about serious/complex leisure in artistic pursuits from creative friends, family members, and mutuals. I asked a total of 19 people—most of whom reside in Toronto—the question:

In Serious Leisure and Individuality, Robert Stebbins defines serious leisure as the “systematic pursuit of an amateur hobbyist, or volunteer core activity that people find so substantial, interesting, and fulfilling that, in the typical case, they launch themselves on a (leisure) career centered on acquiring and expressing a combination of its special skills, knowledge, and experience” (p. 37).

Complex leisure was included in an effort to diversify the vocabulary for serious leisure discourse in the context of this publication. “Complex leisure” pertains to the interrelated activities that individuals engage in as part of their leisure pursuits. It reflects the mosaics of various pursuits that coalesce into the individual's drive to create and share their creations (McArton, 2023).

The tangledjo photobook exemplifies the leisure sentiments outlined in the main book, as it showcases my crocheted work in a series of photos produced collaboratively with 6 of my friends, who photographed, styled, modeled, and assisted.
